Wasted Money!
Because earlier I wrote about photojournalism and candid shots, I want to quickly address a disturbing trend I’ve witnessed at many weddings.
A lot of folks are using these throw away type cameras and putting one on every table at the reception. This may come as a surprise to you but, you're wasting money! There are a couple of reasons.
Let’s start with the most obvious one, your photographer should be your first option for this type of work as long as you can afford the extra time. He/she is better equipped and trained for the job. Failing this, most guests now have point and shoot digital cameras, virtually all of which will produce better optical quality images vs any throw away film type, not to mention the fact that they can instantly find out if the picture turned out the way they intended!
Secondly, throw away type film cameras are notoriously unreliable. Flash malfunction, flash range, unreliable focus, film advance problems (mostly caused by the user), lousy plastic lenses and often, because of heat exposure the color is atrocious! That should do it but, that's not all! Your users are not experienced photojournalists. They're likely tipsy (or drunk). Conclusion: you’ll be lucky if any of these shots are worthwhile to exist in your wedding album, making their true cost exceed what common sense would dictate. It represents very poor value. Save your money!
Keep in mind that, no matter what your guests use, there's no substitute for an experienced professional.
