 Moonlighting

While studying Photographic Arts, most of the teaching staff were ex-pros who had returned to teach their craft on a full time basis while moonlighting in various branches of photography.

Although shocking news to me at the time and reflective of the innocence of my youth, these artists had already discovered a sad reality of this industry  namely that, few survive and even fewer ever find financial comfort in it. This realization re-directs many to pursue other opportunities on a full time basis  keeping art interests around for more pleasurable means.

I mention this because, you'll notice that a great number of professional wedding photographers, yours truly, are moonlighting. Is this something you should be concerned about?  Not in the least and here's why:

The ability to work professionally and responsibly is not just reserved for full time practitioners. My former teachers clearly exemplified it! It’s simply a lifestyle choice requiring a practical approach. In no way does it diminish acquired knowledge, experience, ability or devotion. Besides, weddings are primarily weekend events!
